Partners
The success of the Balashikha Project has been the result of a unique Russian-American partnership involving private/public funding from both American and Russian sources. On the American side, Mr. Murray and the Murray family have provided through FOR the vision, the major seed capital (in excess of $3.0 M), and the management for the Balashikha Project. WHO/CC/RH has supplied intellectual capital for project content, development, and implementation.
A group of strong American supporters stepped forward following the lead of the Rotary Club of Atlanta. This group includes the Coca Cola Foundation-Russia; the Elfin Society of the General Electric Company by donating sophisticated new perinatal diagnostic and clinical equipment (valued at $2.0 M); the Claus M. Halle Institute for Global Learning at Emory University; a $500,000 Global Alliance Development grant from USAID; and the Open World Leadership Program at the Library of Congress. Recently Delta Airlines Program has become a partner in the Project.
On the Russian side, significant seed capital has come from the Moscow Oblast, which allocated in excess of $3 M to develop the infrastructure of this modern regional perinatal center by renovating and equipping the hospital; increasing personnel; and completely reorganizing the staff. From the private sector, the Rossica Rotary Club of Moscow partnered with the Rotary Club of Atlanta to co-sponsor a grant to Rotary International for funds to transport the General Electric equipment gift from Atlanta to the MRPC.
